Mother’s Day is just around the corner (Dude’s you’ve got like 12 days) and I’ve made a list of things mom really wants for her special day. Why? Because I know I what I want, ha! I polled some of my friends (also awesome real mamas) and I have to say, I have made excellent choices in the friend department. So, without further ado here is my list of most coveted Mother’s Day gifts.
1. A Summer’s Worth of Pedicures
Sure, a fun mani/pedi day is great but it’s always nice to have a whole Summer of pretty toes. A pedicure every 10 days or so won’t set you back much and will make mama super happy to check one more thing off her annoying “crap I do to keep myself happy” list.
2. A FREAKING NAP!
I can’t sleep in to save my life. I’m lucky if I make it later than 7 am when I have the chance to sleep in. I can however nap like a champ and I never get to do it unless I plug my kids in. So all I want on Mother’s Day is a nap. Honestly.
3. A Night Alone in a Hotel with Room Service and Netflix
This has been a dream of mine ever since I popped out my first kid. I love my husband and as much as I would love a romantic night alone with him, I want a romantic night alone with myself even more. A night with no hum of a baby monitor, no one touching me, no wrestling with bedtime, no one trying to steal my snacks, and no dumb kid shows. A big comfy bed I don’t have to make, food I don’t have to cook, and a night cuddled up with a current binge-worthy show is my ultimate dream.
4. Home Alone For A Day
A lot of my friends mentioned they wanted a whole day alone at home to either clean, organize, or just relax while their kiddos are off having a fun adventure. I LOVE this idea. Have you ever tried to clean ANYTHING with your kids underfoot? It sucks. So significant others, get your little people out of the house, get your partner a gift card to a favorite kitchen or organizing store and let them go nuts all day long.
This sort of sticks with the pedicures but a spa day with girlfriends is a great gift. A massage, mani/pedis, a facial, and some tender love and care for the person who has dish pan hands and an aching back all while gossiping with her friends and sipping bubbly will earn you major points.
Something we lack in our house is time as a whole family and many of my polled buddies expressed the same desire: an extra day together to make some quality memories. No schedules and no rules. Just fun.
7. A Subscription Service
Be it a meal delivery plan, beauty supplies, or things to occupy kids a subscription to something is always a good idea. My personal favorite? Birchbox, Blue Apron, and Little Passports.
8. Date Night
Take your woman out. Plan it, hire the baby sitter, be a gentleman and for hell’s sake, put your phone away.
9. A Family Photo
This is my addition to the list because I always want an up-to-date professional picture of my family. It’s not just the purchase of the photo session but the willingness to dress like idiots and sit still while smiling that mean a lot to me.
10. A Card
No number of pedicures, massages, naps, breakfasts in bed, or jewels can beat a heartfelt card. From my husband, not my kids. I get heartfelt cards from my kids all day long but I rarely get a note from my husband that puts into words just how much he appreciates all I do as the mom to his kids. One time my husband put a note on my night stand just because and I still read it almost every night. It meant more to me than any gift I’ve ever been given. So while it seems lame, I promise it will easily win “best gift ever”. Take 15 minutes to write out all the things you appreciate about the person who does so so much.
I want to hear your wish list so hit the comments and share!
And stay tuned to actual Mother’s Day for a very special guest blogger.
